Sydney Gunpla & Plamo Taikai: Mecha Building Competition at Animaga 2026
Mecha Mastery: Join the Sydney Gunpla & Plamo Taikai at Animaga Sydney 2026
The smell of plastic cement, the precision of a hobby knife, and the satisfaction of a perfectly applied decal—plamo building is a journey of patience and artistry. This year at ICC Sydney, we are providing a premier stage to celebrate that dedication. We invite builders from across the community to step into the spotlight at the Sydney Gunpla & Plamo Taikai!
This isn’t just a competition; it is a massive collaborative display of mecha mastery. Whether you are a fan of the classic Universal Century or prefer the modern designs of The Witch from Mercury, this is your chance to share your craftsmanship with thousands of fellow fans.
A Category for Every Builder
We believe that every kit tells a story, regardless of the builder’s experience level. To ensure a fair and exciting competition, the Taikai features specific categories designed to highlight different aspects of the hobby:
Under 18: Celebrating the next generation of builders. Show us the future of the hobby!
Unpainted (Straight Build): Focused on the fundamentals. We’re looking for clean nub removal, perfect alignment, and great posing.
Painted: For the artists who use plastic as their canvas. This category highlights color theory, shading, weathering, and custom finishes.
Master Class: The ultimate challenge for veteran builders. This is the home for heavy modifications, kit-bashing, and museum-quality execution.
Feedback from the Experts
Our expert judging panel isn’t just here to pick winners—they are here to help the community grow. Entries will be evaluated based on three core pillars: Construction, Painting, and Creativity.
The best part? Our judges are ready to offer helpful, constructive feedback. Whether you take home a trophy or not, you’ll walk away with professional insights to help you elevate your craft for your next build. It’s a rare opportunity to have your work reviewed by some of the most seasoned builders in the scene.
