Animaga Sydney 2027 Plamo & Gunpla Workshop

Discover the world of creativity, patience, and craftsmanship at the Animaga Plamo Workshop 2027—a dedicated hands-on hub arriving at Animaga Sydney next March, where precision meets imagination and the joy of plastic scale modeling comes alive.

Immerse yourself in the rich culture of ‘Plamo’ (the Japanese term for plastic models), spanning intricate vehicle replicas, sci-fi mecha, and iconic anime figures. Trace the craft back to its origins in 1961 in Shizuoka, Japan—the birthplace of Japan’s first commercial plastic model kit by Aoshima. Today, Shizuoka stands as the global capital of the hobby, home to pioneering titans like Bandai and Tamiya who continue to elevate model kit engineering to fine art. Explore the enduring phenomenon of ‘Gunpla’ (Gundam plastic models), a cultural sensation since 1980. With their revolutionary multi-color molding and intuitive snap-fit assembly, Gunpla kits offer an accessible, glue-free entry point for beginners alongside limitless customization depth for veteran hobbyists.

The Animaga Sydney Plamo Workshop provides a welcoming, community-driven makerspace for builders of all ages and experience levels. Whether you are cutting parts from a runner for the very first time or perfecting panel-lining and decal techniques on an advanced build, this interactive space is designed to help you discover your inner builder. Try your hand at entry-level demonstration kits, learn foundational assembly methods, and gain direct tips from seasoned modelers.

Our workshop tables come equipped with essential assembly tools such as nippers and sanding blocks to help you get started right away, while experienced builders are welcome to bring along their favorite tools and current works-in-progress. Marvel at showcase displays of fully painted, weathered, and customized community builds, share techniques with fellow enthusiasts, and experience the camaraderie at the heart of the modeling scene.

Stay tuned as we reveal workshop schedules, sponsor kit allocations, and special build activities leading up to Animaga Sydney next March!
