It’s time to pick up your styluses, sharpen your pencils, and clear your canvases. The wait is finally over, and the official theme for this year’s Animaga Melbourne 2026 Drawing Competitions has been locked in.

This year, we are challenging everyone to merge the futuristic with the functional. The theme for both the Traditional Fine Art and Digital Art competitions is: Sci-fi & Techwear.

Whether you draw every single day or just want to try your hand at a fresh challenge, this is your signal to start brainstorming, sketching layouts, and planning your piece before we head to the MCEC this August.

The Brief: Sci-fi & Techwear

This theme is all about looking forward. We want to see your interpretation of tomorrow’s world, combining cutting-edge technology with high-fashion utility. You can take this direction wherever your imagination leads you:

• Intricate Techwear Fashion: Think sleek materials, tactical straps, neon accents, and functional gear designed for urban survival or cybernetic stealth.

• Futuristic Environments: Drop your characters into sprawling cyberpunk cityscapes, sleek starship interiors, or cool landscapes where technology rules supreme.

• Character Concepts: Bring to life futuristic hackers, mecha pilots, or cyber-enhanced travelers who embody the spirit of science fiction.

No matter which medium you choose, the focus is on how you blend mechanical details, futuristic aesthetics, and wearable technology into a striking piece of art.
