During the Animaga weekend, local modelers alongside Animaga are thrilled to present a workshop on plastic model and Gunpla construction. ‘Plamo’ is a term cherished in Japan, representing plastic models spanning various categories, from cars and military gear to anime themes. The legacy began in 1961 with Aoshima releasing Japan’s premier plastic model in Shizuoka, a city that once saw the production of wooden plane kits for educational purposes. Today, Shizuoka stands as Japan’s hub for plastic models, annually hosting the largest industry event and housing renowned factories like Tamiya and Bandai.
Another term synonymous with Japanese modeling culture is ‘Gunpla’, denoting plastic models of Gundam, the iconic mecha from the 1979 anime, Mobile Suit Gundam. Bandai’s Gunpla line, initiated in 1980, encompasses models from various Gundam series. While initial models demanded adhesive and painting, modern iterations are much more user-friendly, arriving pre-colored with easy snap-together features, rivaling the intricacy of action figures.
Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned enthusiast, you’re invited to join us! Throughout the day, we’ll exhibit both foundational and advanced modeling techniques. Attendees can avail themselves of basic kits and tools, while a variety of vendors will be present, offering the latest imported goods. This inclusive event beckons both young and mature participants.
At our building area, nippers will be available for free use. You’re also welcome to bring along personal tools or ongoing projects. Don’t miss the captivating display of customized and painted models, and if you wish, you can also showcase your creations during the event.
